SEMH Specialist Outreach Support

Our Outreach offer aims to provide specialist advice, guidance and support to primary and secondary mainstream schools that complements existing inclusive practice through increasing the knowledge and building confidence and competence in providing pupil centred provision for those with special educational needs.

The support provided by the Outreach team is intended to equip staff to respond to the needs of the pupil and not to work directly with the child. The specialist advice and support provided will enable teachers and support staff in mainstream schools to feel confident in delivering effective interventions and quality first teaching, ensuring all pupils have access to a broad and balanced curriculum through a trauma informed approach.

What kind of support do we offer?

  • Developing inclusive classroom practice and SEND classroom strategies through a trauma informed lens.

  • Advice on curriculum content and design to support pupils working below expected levels.

  • Support with setting up a resourced provision or SEN Unit, within a mainstream school, designed to provide specialist and targeted support for children with long term special educational needs.

  • Environmental audits to evaluate whether your classrooms are suitable learning environments for pupils with SEND.

  • Development of a positive approach to behaviour support and management.

  • Advice and guidance around challenging behaviour, de-escalation and conflict resolution.

  • Implementing effective communication and emotional regulation systems.

  • Support in developing independence and Social Skills.

  • Transitions between Schools/Settings or Key Stages.

  • Guidance and support when working with parents of children with SEND.

  • Support for teachers and teaching assistants to feel more confident in their day-to-day work. in the classroom and building this confidence through being able to talk to, observe and work alongside skilled practitioners from Archers Brook.

  • Information and guidance on up-to-date teaching approaches to support children with SEND

  • Advice on specialist external programmes, resources and interventions.

What methods of support are available?

We offer a range of services to meet the needs of professionals working with pupils with SEND. These include:

  • Individual packages of support tailored to pupils referred to our service; that address agreed identified areas of need.

  • Modelling of best practice through onsite school visits, as well as in-reach visits to Archers Brook.

  • Specialist training workshops - either virtual, face to face or via pre-recorded videos that cover a range of topics to support in developing confidence, skills and knowledge around supporting pupils with SEND. These workshops are planned to meet current trends in need. Bespoke school development training can also be created to cater for groups of staff, in your setting, to meet specific areas of need.

  • In-Reach visits where mainstream school staff can pick a particular focus area and are given the opportunity to come and spend time in Archers Brook to observe practice and approach, which can

How much does it cost?

An initial consult with no cost is the first point of contact. This will focus on identifying the type of support required after which strategies, advice and casework will be discussed.

After the initial discussion there are packages of support that schools can access at a cost, these could consist of a combination of:

  • Initial Consultation and Needs Assessment

  • Classroom Observations and feedback

  • Environmental Audit

  • CPD training and workshops

  • Individual casework

  • Small group staff support

  • Modelling of strategies and approaches

  • Advice on curriculum differentiation

  • Signposting to appropriate referral resources.

  • General advice relating to inclusion and adjustments to the learning environment

The total cost of the package of support will depend on the type of support required, but will generally depend on the amount of time required. Daily rates below.

Half day: £200

Full day: £350

(plus travel expenses at £0.65 per mile)

CPD / Twilight Session (2 Hours): £200
