Computing

INTENT
The intent of the Computing curriculum at Archers Brook is to shape confident Digital Citizens that can use a wide range of software applications safely and responsibly whilst at the same time develop transferable skills that will be beneficial within the digital world that awaits them.

The Computing Curriculum is designed to allow all pupils at Archers Brook to make progress through a sequenced approach and be suitably challenged within realistic situations, not only in the classroom but via links to external agencies to promote enrichment and engagement for pupils.

IMPLEMENTATION
Pupils are taught Computing as a core subject at Archers Brook. Lessons are carefully planned to stimulate pupils’ thoughts and address common misconceptions. The curriculum can be summarised using the following categories; Computer Science, Information Technology, Digital literacy. This allows pupils to make connections between individual topics, as well as understand how the knowledge and skills developed within various software packages will benefit them in life beyond Archers Brook.

All pupils take an active participation in their learning. Subject teachers communicate high expectations, enthusiasm and passion when delivering curriculum content. Pupils are inspired to showcase their skill development in the best ways possible.

IMPACT

ØPupils at Archers Brook will be able to demonstrate excellent understanding of important concepts in computing and have the confidence to transfer their skills across a range of software applications and technology in preparation for their future pathway.

ØPupils will become independent users of ICT and demonstrate high levels of imagination, creativity and innovation in their application of skills.

ØPupils will be positive, confident and independent Digital Citizens and will be able to keep themselves safe when using various Internet applications and digital devices.

Pupils have one hour of timetabled sessions in KS2 each week, KS3 have two hours of timetabled sessions each week and cover the following:

*Digital Literacy lessons are also built into the curriculum to develop pupils Microsoft Office skills. This is done within modules or as one off skills lessons during each half term. 

WHAT WE DO IN KEY STAGE 4

Pupils in Key Stage four study for 2.5 hours per week. They study NCFE -Occupational studies for the workplace. This course develops students skills for the workplace and prepares them for post Archers Brook college/ workplace settings. Students study a range of modules that develop essential skills for future employment.  This results in one of the following qualifications: ELC, L1 or Level 2 Qualification. All students in KS4 also complete a certified Online E-Safety course via the Online Safety Alliance.
