The Den
Archers Brook’s nurture base is called The Den and we target our support at those of our young people who are showing signs of emotional stress and behaviour which inhibit their success at school.
In a small, safe and secure setting, pupils gain from taking part in tailored nurture-type activities delivered by qualified nurture base staff whose goal is to equip and empower pupils for full integration into school and their lives beyond.
Through close and trusting relationships with adults and their peers we engender self-confidence and ultimately self-esteem in our pupils. We believe that consistency of approach is key whether at school or at home and so we work closely with tutors, TAs and parents in promoting these positive skills and habits.
At Archers Brook we are housed in an area separate from the main school, with a home-like area and space set aside for more formal learning. The carpeted ‘home’ area is furnished with a sofa, cushions and armchairs. We have a well-equipped kitchen including a microwave oven, worktop cooker and refrigerator as well as a dining room and our own toilet facilities.
Referrals via tutors will be considered for pupils who are underachieving for social emotional or behavioural reasons.
These might include pupils who are consistently:
- Restless, have difficulty with focus, behave impulsively or aggressively.
- Withdrawn and unresponsive and who have difficulty relating to others.
Parents will be notified about a referral to The Den and will be updated regularly on their child’s progress.
