Intent
The imaginative and stimulating CDT curriculum is designed to meet the full range of pupils’ needs and to ensure that health and safety regulation are adhered to at all times. It has been enhanced and enriched forging links with other agencies, industries and the wider community. Pupils are kept up to date on their current progress, projects for the future and courses, they are helped in understanding how this subject can be of value to them for future careers and creative industries and STEM. Links with other subjects in the school are highly productive in strengthening pupils’ learning in CDT.
Implementation
CDT is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens.
Our curriculum for design and technology aims to ensure that all pupils:
Develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
Build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
Critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
Impact
Pupils are ready for the next stage of education, employment or training. They have the knowledge and skills they need and, where relevant, they gain qualifications that allow them to go on to destinations that meet their interests and aspirations and the intention of their course of study. Pupils with SEND achieve the best possible outcomes in the subject.
