Reading

Archers Brook School put reading at the heart of their curriculum. We strive to develop a love of reading both at home and in school. We believe that reading is an entitlement that every student deserves and should be nurtured both in school and at home.

Archers Brook School strive to instil a love of reading by exposing our pupils to a variety of different genres. Reading forms part of a life long skill that will prepare our pupils for life beyond the classroom and this is why is we encourage reading across all subjects within the curriculum.

We provide a nurturing environment where pupils are encouraged to build vocabulary in order to understand more difficult texts. All pupils are assessed on their level of understanding, completing an Accelerated Reader quiz after reading a book.

Form time reading is actioned once a week for KS3, to really embed a love of reading. All pupils have the option to pick their own book from an extensive collection, or engage in a class text that is read by their form staff.

We provide rich, meaningful discussions around texts, that encourage all pupils to feel confident and able to talk through their understanding with other learners.
