Key Stage 2

Archers Brook School offers a broad and rich curriculum for Key Stage 2 pupils with a range of complex social, emotional and mental health issues. We provide quality education and support for Year 5 and 6 pupils to enable them to become successful and confident learners. Staff are not only trained to deliver high quality specialist subjects but also hold specific SEND qualifications that ensure we can cosistently approach our pupils SEND, removing barriers to learning and emotional development.

Our pupils are integrated into our whole school community and have some lessons in the main school. This allows them to access not just highly trained staff for literacy and numeracy but specialist teachers for science, art, spanish, music, PE and food technology. This  enriches the primary curriculum and it also helps to support their transition into Key Stage 3 -  whether this is with us at Archers Brook or in their next identified setting.

We follow the primary national curriculum but adapt it to suit the pupils individual needs, so we can support our pupils from their own starting points ensuring our pupils make gains in improving their key skills of literacy and numeracy. However, being an SEMH setting we are not just concerned with academic progress, we provide a variety of learning experiences to help develop pupils emotional development, communication and social skills as well as promoting a positive attitude to others and learning.

Pupils are encouraged through reward and feedback to engage positively with their timetable, due to our flexible apporach however we can tailor some elements of the school day to meet individual needs and ensure that pupils access learning/activities in a way that makes them feel able to participate.

After many, many requests from our pupils here in KS2, we're proud to announce that our brand-new KS2 'Class Dojo' is now up and running for 2017-2018!

This year, our pupils can earn Dojo points for showing excellent effort and awesome attitude throughout the day, and work their way up the class-wide scoreboard to try and take their place as KS2's 'Star of the Day' and/or 'Star of the Week'.

Plus, we'll be sharing all KS2-related announcements here so you can keep up-to-speed with what's going on in class, as well as showcasing some of the awe-inspiring class projects that our pupils will be working on in their subjects this school year!

Hopefully, this should grow to become a great method for you to keep well informed about everything that our class are getting up to this year: trips that we're planning, school notices that you should know about, etc. You will also be able to see some of the excellent work that our pupils are eager to show off, and - on top of our usual phone calls home - allow us to keep you in-the-loop about how your child is getting on in school on a regular basis.

As a parent/guardian of a child in KS2 this year, you can sign up (for free) to our Class Dojo to access your child's own 'Class Story', see special news and announcements, see the Dojo points that are being awarded to your child and also get in contact with KS2 staff easily using the embedded messaging system.

Sign up for your own parent/guardian account at www.classdojo.com and check out what your child is getting up to in school this year!

(You will need a unique parent/guardian login code in order to ensure only teachers and parents/guardians are securely accessing our Class Dojo. If you have not already received a parent/guardian login code for Class Dojo, please don't hesistate to us in KS2 and we can allocate you a new one!)
