The aim of learning is Spanish is to encourage pupils to:-

  • develop the ability to understand and use the target language effectively for purposes of practical comminucation
  • develop an awareness of the nature of language, including grammar, and language learning
  • develop positive attitudes to foreign language learning and to speakers of foreign languages and a positive approach to other cultures and civilisations
  • develop skills which have a wider application such as memorising and communication skills
  • experience enjoyment and intellectual stimulation

Key Stage 4

Students have 4 lessons of Spanish per week.  In Year 10 they will be working towards the FCSE qualification which has 3 levels of award: Pass, Merit and Distinction.  It will also provide accreditation for all four skills areas: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.  In Year 11 students are encouraged to consolidate their skills and knowledge in a range of different topics from the AQA Spanish Specification and they can achieve between a Grade 9-1.
